There are chances of having a smaller baby for pregnant women who consumes caffeine daily which is equivalent to as little as half a cup of coffee a day regularly. This affects the health of a baby and on the other hand, women who don’t consume caffeinated beverages are way much healthier and their babies are very fit and intelligent. All of this is analyzed by a new study. This research was done in the national institute of health with great expertise. The researchers found some defects in the size of the baby and the researchers also find a corresponding reduction in size and lean body mass found in infants whose mothers consumed below 200 milligrams of caffeine per day, hence, the caffeine intake is very harmful. Intake of two cups of coffee is believed to rapidly increase risks to the fetus and the risk is uncontrollable. If the birth size decreases the chance of catching a disease increases in infant. Smaller birth sizes can place infants at higher risk of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes later in life.

The research was led by Katherine L. Grantz, MD, MS of the division of intramural population health research at NIH’S Eunice Kennedy Shriver national institute of child health and human development. The study actively appeared in the Jama network open. They suggest cutting down or foregoing the consumption of caffeine-containing beverages during pregnancy. Caffeine leads to worsening of baby’s health and it is proved by Dr. Grantz. During pregnancy,   of craving rapidly increases in a mother to be and wants to have only positive vibes around her. Hence, pregnant women should only consume coffee or any other caffeinated beverage after consulting their suitable doctor.
