Nowadays it is believed that none of the waste material is scrap as the re-usable material can be utilized to create new products by industries. One such reusable item is coffee waste. Coffee waste makes the soil very fertile and since we know that our forests are on the verge of extinction, caffeine waste is helpful in lots of ways for building something good. According to new research, it is found out that coffee pulp which is a waste product in the process of coffee production can be highly used to speed up tropical forest recovery on post-agricultural land. The process of tropical forest development is essential in today’s era because of the deforestation problem. As we all know that forest is the home of lots of animals and creatures and if we are not successful to prevent it then they must be eager to find a new home for themselves and all of these factors can unbalance the situation.

Researchers from ETH- Zurich, and the University of Hawaii, spread 30 dump truck loads of coffee pulp on a 35* 40-meter area of degraded land in Costa Rica and captured out the same sized area without coffee pulp as a control measure. After seeing this, the results were very much dramatic as said by DR Rebecca Cole, who is a lead authority of the study. The area was treated with a thick layer of coffee pulp turned into a small forest in less than only two years while the control plot remained dominated by nonnative pasture grasses.

Now it is being seen that the area in which there is coffee pulp area had 80% canopy cover compared to 20% in the control area. The canopy in the coffee pulp area was also four times taller than that of the control area. Some updates were done in the coffee canopy area which includes the addition of the half-meter thick layer of the coffee pulp eliminated the invasive pasture grasses which dominated the land area. The pollution factor in forest areas should be controlled accordingly.
