Internet of Things (IoT) – A New Way To Connect

Internet of thing is a network of devices that contain electronics and connectivity which allow them to connect, interact and exchange data.  Devices like smartphone, vehicles, home appliances, machines uses sensors and applications programming interfaces (APIs) to exchange data. Big Data Management Tools, predictive analytics, Radio- Frequency Identification (RFID), cloud etc. are the key technologies of Internet of Things.

Internet of thing term came into existence in 1999, to promote RFID technology, before that it was called embedded internet or pervasive computing. The term was first used by Kevin Ashton who was in supply chain optimization at Procter& Gamble. He wants to get the attention of his senior towards the new technology RFID, so he used the term because during that period internet was the new trend.

From past few years, there is increase in the IoT enabled devices which somewhere have change how we interact. Today systems are getting smarter and there is more advancement that we will be witnessing in future as well.  They help our smart devices to perform efficiently and access remotely. The major components IoT works on are-

  1. Gateway- A gateway is a data communication device that joins two networks so that the one network can communicate with the other network. Gateway is the way through which we are able to access internet and send data. Gateway can be applied in software, hardware or the combination of both. They look after the data protocols and make sure that devices and sensors are connected properly.
  2. Device Connectivity- Devices and sensors are the components of the device connectivity. Sensors collect the data and transfer it to the net layer. Sensor Connectivity and network is present in the bottom layer of the IoT system to collect information. Today, micro smart sensors are produced with the semiconductor technology which can be used various applications. Some of the common sensors are temperature sensors, pressure sensors, moisture level, proximity detension etc.

Sensors and smart devices today can easily be connected to the wireless networks like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRAWAN etc. These wireless devices are long battery life and are cost effective.

  1. Memory Device- Memory Device is a storage device that stores the information. They are very important and are present in almost all devices whether they are smart phones, laptops, pc etc. The memories are divided in two parts

  • o SAM (Sequentially Access Memory) which read the stored data in a sequence.
  • o RAM (Random Access Memory) is the hardware where all data are kept so that they can quickly reach by device processor. RAM is way faster to access than SAM.

RAM is further divided into Static RAM (SRAM) and Dynamic RAM (DRAM).

SRAM is a RAM which as long as memory have power stores the data and is faster and requires less power.

DRAM is a RAM which is depended upon the voltage applied to store the data.

  1. Processor- A processor is an integrated electronic circuit which performs, logical and other calculations that run a computer. In simple words, other processes in the computer are depending on the operations of a processor.

Ability to process instructions at a given time, maximum number of bits/instructions, and relative clock speed are the capabilities which are measured by the processor.

  1. Cloud- Today there are various tools which are used to collect and process and handle. Cloud combines many devices, protocols, devices and data so that they can be analyzed efficiently. It also helps in forming a great strategy for the business expansion and growth.

Internet of Things is the latest development which is growing and increasing with time. These components make the protocol easily accessible, reasonably priced, efficient and secure. These components are used by each and every one is the reason which is increasing this market.
