IoT: A Bridge Connecting Technologies

Today, the market is flooded with different smart gadgets and the interconnectivity between them is termed as Internet of Things (IoT). This is a transformational technology which is going to change the future of the business. It is estimated that there will be 50 billion connected devices by 2050. IoT is going to change the world around us more and more. IoT is creating a place where smart gadgets like smart phones, smart T.V., smart watches etc. are connected and can communicate with each other. It created a path where it is very easy to transfer any data over a network without any human or machinery involvement.

Smart devices or commonly known as connected devices are capture and utilize every data and as per that they interact with us. Due to the current hype of IoT, there is increase in the IoT enabled products. Some of the IoT applications are smart homes, wearables, smart city, connected car, connected health, smart retail and smart farming.

Marketers and entrepreneurs are using this technology so that they can connect to the consumers in a new way and also help them to track the consumer behavior. Recently, Cavli Wireless Inc, IoT based infrastructure manufacturer announced the release of its future proof IoT module- C1 RM. For global data connectivity it has 2G fallback and integrated eSIM which will help the companies to easily access the latest technological advancement.

IoT is a way to achieve more in less time as it increases the efficiency and productivity. It allows accomplishing large- scaling tasks faster and easier. Nokia also launched off- the- shelf Internet of Things packages which will help the operators to win new business in new IoT markets and as it will provide global IT connectivity and service supports as it is built on Nokia Worldwide IoT Network Grid.

To expand and shape the industrial IoT, Companies like Kuldeski Group and IDEMIA announced a global partnership to provide the manufacturer and providers a single fully- integrated solutions to manage the network connectivity and provide security to cellular IoT devices. The Industrial Internet Consortium and OpenFog Consortium also announced that they will be combining the two largest international consortia, fog and edge computing which will work under the IIC umbrella.

To improve the existing systems, many industries like transportation, medical, manufacturing, hospitality etc. are using IoT technology. Medical industry is using IoT based tools so that they can monitor the patient and give them drugs as per tracked information due to which doctors don’t have to spend time on analyzing their patients. Senioradam and Sigfox developed a telecare solution which will be made up of different sensors to detect any potential behavioral anomalies due to fall, a person feeling faint or deteriorating mental condition like Alzheimer. In 2017, Vodafone also claimed that connected solution based IoT will help people to follow their medical treatments and programs more closely and will save millions of dollars and time.

IoT devices and wearable are also used in sports to analyze the performance. They are used to track performances, power, agility, and overall cardiovascular fitness whether it is cycling, tennis or football all can make use of this sensor.

In this interconnected world, data privacy and security are one of the major problems faced by the people. As there is increase in the number of connected devices and due to some poorly designed devices there are chances that user data will be exposed and misused. So, to solve this problem Extreme Networks launched Defender for IoT whose aim is to help organization secure edge and IoT devices. As today even homes are connected with devices, the security of the homes is important as well. So, to protect the home against increasing threats Verizon has partnered with McAfee to protect the IoT devices around in which unauthorized access will be blocked.

IoT is improving the life in many aspects and is a game changer. Today devices like cars, refrigerators can connected with each other and can respond just like smart devices. IoT has increased the business opportunities by helping the company to benefit from new revenue streams developed by advance business models. It reduces the operational cost as today almost all the devices are connected to the internet.  They are also used in home security devices which can be accessed easy via applications available on smartphones. This technology somewhere has made life easier, convenient and comfortable and has improved the quality of life.
