- In November 2023, Hartzell Engine Technologies, based in Montgomery and a key player in aviation engine accessories, expanded its capabilities by acquiring Kelly Aero, another Montgomery-based company. Kelly Aero is recognized as the world’s largest private original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specializing in aftermarket aircraft magnetos, replacement parts, and ignition harnesses. This acquisition strengthens Hartzell’s position in the aviation aftermarket industry and complements its existing product offerings. The move allows Hartzell to offer a more comprehensive range of ignition system solutions, enhancing its competitive edge in the market
- In July 2023, SureFly Partners, LTD announced at EAA AirVenture that it had received FAA approval to replace mechanical magnetos on certified 4- and 6-cylinder Lycoming and Continental-powered aircraft. The FAA-approved modification involves installing dual SureFly Electronic Ignitions, with the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) allowing the use of two SureFly Ignition Modules (“SIMs”) per engine. This modification offers aircraft operators a more reliable and efficient alternative to traditional mechanical magnetos. - In October 2022, Unison Industries LLC announced an extension of its distribution agreement with AAR Corp.
