- In January 2025, renewable energy developer Dark Green Group announced plans to develop up to 12 anaerobic digestion (AD) plants across the U.K., with the goal of processing more than 700,000 tonnes of organic waste annually
- In September 2024, Abrdn’s global infrastructure projects division decided to invest in an anaerobic digestion plant in the U.K., developed by The Circular Economy Development (TCED). The project, valued at over USD 76 million, commenced construction in the third quarter of 2024 and is expected to begin commercial operations by late 2026. The initiative includes the design, construction, ownership, operation, maintenance, and financing of the facility, which will use anaerobic digestion technologies to convert food waste into biogas
- In August 2024, Ecualia Capital, in collaboration with Aragorn Value, committed over USD 100 million to Italy’s biomethane sector to create a new platform focused on constructing and operating biomethane plants. The initiative will start with four facilities across different locations in Italy, each with a production capacity of about 500 standard cubic meters per hour (scm/h), processing around 50,000 tons of livestock and agricultural waste per year to improve regional waste management
- In March 2022, Veolia Environnement SA launched a new anaerobic digestion facility in Dagenham, U.K., designed to process 50,000 tons of food waste annually
- In September 2021, SUEZ Group strengthened its position in the biogas sector by acquiring Aria Technologies
