Anorexiants are appetite suppressing medications that work on the brain. They stimulate the hypothalamus and limbic parts of the brain, which control satiety. Obesity can be treated with anorexiants. According to a World Health Organization report, around 650 million people and 41 million children under the age of five were obese globally in 2017. Some of the anorexiants medications used to treat obesity are lorcaserinER, naltrexone/bupropion ER, orlistat, liraglutide, lorcaserin, and phentermine/topiramate ER. As many drugs have been licensed by the FDA for the treatment of obesity, the anorexiants market is expected to rise in the next years.
