In June 2024, NEC Corporation has developed a radio-over-fiber system using a 1-bit fiber transmission method, enabling the affordable construction of stable millimeter-wave communication networks for beyond 5G/6G. This technology allows high-frequency analog signals to be transmitted using a low-cost electrical-to-optical converter, making it possible to create compact and cost-effective distributed antenna units. The system provides stable millimeter-wave communication in environments with obstacles, such as high-rise buildings, underground malls, factories, and railways. NEC will showcase this technology at the IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (IMS2024) in Washington, D.C.,
