Global Radiotherapy Market

Radiotherapy is the treatment of cancer which uses high energy radiation to kill cancer tissues in the body. This therapy stops cancel cell from multiplying also called as radiation therapy. According to national center for biotechnology information more than 14 million of new cases of cancer are diagnose each year and radiation therapy has a potential to improve the rates of cure of 3.5 million people and provide relief to additional 3.5 million peoples.

According to the research published in the journal of medical imaging and radiation oncology shows that the most effective treatment for prostate cancer is external-beam radiation therapy. Men with prostate cancer who are treated with external-beam radiation therapy have cure rate of 95.5% for intermediate risk prostate cancer and 91.3% for high risk prostate cancer.  It was found that the patient treated with modern external-beam radiation therapy has 98.8% free survival rate of 5 years.

According to the study conducted by the Texas oncology, a study was conducted on 715 women who were suffering from stage 1uterine cancer.  The difference the treatment with surgery alone and treatment with surgery followed by adjuvant external beam radiation therapy was studied. And it was found that the cancer recurrence rate was 4.0% and the survival rate was 81.0% in the patient treated with surgery followed by adjuvant external beam radiation therapy and the cancer recurrence rate was 14.0% and the survival rate was 85.0% in the patient who were treated with surgery alone. The survival rate was higher in treatment by surgery alone because the radiation has various side effects in women.

Oncologist needs the high quality tools for efficient and accurate radiation treatment planning. Hence Toshiba medical, a Canon group company in November 2017, introduced the Galan RT Solutions which is a radiation therapy tool available on premium vantage Galan TM 3T MR system. Gallan RT offers unique features. It allows a health care provider to precisely map MR data to PET/CT images so as to develop confident plans for radiation therapy.

In Florida a study was conducted on 396 women who were suffering from stage 1 uterine cancer who were treated with hysterectomy, lymph node dissection and brachytherapy. And it was found that the 5 years rate was almost 100.0% with stage 1A cancer, 97.0% for the patient with stage 1B cancer and 93.0% for the patient with stage 1C cancer. This shows that brachytherapy alone is effective for the treatment of stage 1 cancer as compare to external beam radiation therapy.

Rising incidence of cancer:

According to American cancer society, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer American men. As per the 2018 data about 164,690 new cases of prostate cancer was diagnose. And 29,430 deaths occur from prostate cancer. According to the national institute of cancer and prevention one woman dies off every 8 minute in India due to cervical cancer. For every 2 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer 1 women dies of it in India. 2500 people die every day in India due to tobacco related disease. Estimated number of people living with disease in India is 2.5 million. Around 7 lacks of new cancer cases are register in India every year. 71.0% of all cancer deaths are among age group 30-60 years. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in India accounts for 22.86% of all cancer cases. And breast cancer accounts for 27.0% of all cancer cases amongst women in India.

According to the national cancer institute in 2018 an estimated 1,735,350 of new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in United States and 609,640 peoples will die from the disease. The number of new cases of cancer is 439.2 per 100,000 men and women per year based on 2011-2015 cases. In 2016 there were 15.5 million cancer survivors in United States. And this is expected to increase to 20.3 million by 2026. The national cancer care expenditure for U.S. in the year 2017 was 147.3 billion USD and this is expected to increase as due to growing population and growing prevalence of cancer.

According to national central cancer registry of China, there were 42,92,000 new cases of cancer and 28,14,000 cancer deaths in China in the year 2015  that is it represent around 6.5% of the total population of china. A study was conducted in Europe by world health organization in the year 2012 and it was found that there are 3.7 million new cases of cancer every year and 1.9 million deaths each year in Europe. Europe comprises only one eighth of the total world population but has one quarter of total cancer cases. That is cancer accounts for 20.0% of the deaths in Europe.

According to the stats provided above shows that the cases of cancer are increasing, which in future need to be treated using beam radiotherapy, brachytherapy. Hence this market is expected to get a very strong platform in future.

Increasing number of cancer treatment facilities:

According to the national cancer institute (NCI), there are around 70 NCI designated cancer centers located in 36 states and districts of Columbia. This is the backbone for the NCI for studying and controlling cancer. Approximately 2,50,000 receives cancer diagnosis at NCI designated cancer center. According to the national institute  of cancer  prevention and research government of India has recognize around 27 cancer  center under the national cancer control programme in 2010  in around 21 states.

According to world health organization, the global cancer rate is expected to increase by 50.0% to 15 million new cases in the year 2020. Hence with this increasing cancer rates the government has to established new cancer treatment facilities to decrease the death rate and increases the cure rate.
